Stanley R. Mohler, M.D., Aerospace Medicine Endowed Scholarship

The purpose of the Mohler Scholarship is to provide training grants and awards to help students and residents in aerospace medicine fund their studies or research activities. Full-time students and residents from any country are eligible, but priority will be given to those early in their careers and to those who are members of the Aerospace Medical Association and the Aerospace Medical Association Student and Resident Organization.

Deadline to apply is March 31st.

Wyle Scholarship, from the Space Medicine Association

The purpose of the SMA Wyle Scholarship is to encourage students, who have demonstrated academic achievement and have shown an interest in Space Biology and Space Medical Operations (e.g., biomedical engineering, space flight physiology, human factors research, nursing, psychology, safety, life sciences, etc.) to further pursue a career in Space Medicine.

The Jeffrey R. Davis, M.D., Aerospace Medicine Endowed Scholarship will be awarded in 2010. The Davis Scholarship will award $500.00 to the recipient to be used for attending any short course in aerospace medicine sponsored by the University of Texas Medical Branch (Galveston, TX) or the AsMA Annual Meeting. All AsMA member students/residents are invited to apply by completing the application form and returning it to the AsMA Home Office by January 31, 2010.




The International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine has a well-established Scholarship Program, the aims of which are to enable young physicians who are starting on a career in aerospace medicine to either attend a formal course of instruction in aerospace medicine or to work in a recognized aerospace medicine training or research institute for instruction, and for research experience in the discipline. Past Scholarships:
AMSRO Scholarship Available: Students and residents are invited to apply to AsMA for a $1,000 travel stipend to attend an aerospace medicine meeting of their choice. Please forward applications to Alex Garbino; electronic submissions are required. Please send applications in no later than February 14, 2010.




The International Association of Military Flight Surgeon Pilots IAMFSP (http://iamfsp.net/) is pleased to announce it is offering a $500.00 (US) scholarship available to a student in the medical sciences for the purpose of attending the May 2009 AsMA Scientific Meeting in Los Angeles. The memorial scholarship is dedicated to one of IAMFSP's founding fathers, CAPT Dave Brown, MC USN an astronaut and flight surgeon-pilot lost during space flight. Students eligible include Masters, or Doctorate candidates in the medical sciences. The Scholarship is intended to defray the cost of attending the AsMA annual Scientific Meeting. Any interested candidates should send a letter describing their interest in the scholarship and why they would be the best candidate (250 words or less). Please include school status, and interest in aerospace medicine / human flight performance / pilot-physician issues. The scholarship will be presented in person at the Tuesday Night 2009 business meeting of the IAMFSP in Los Angeles. Should the primary selectee not be able to attend the AsMA convention, the Scholarship will pass to an alternate that is attending.

AsMA/AMSRO Scholarship

The Travel Scholarship is being funded by AsMA and is award jointly with AMSRO. The objective of this scholarship is to promote the career development of students and residents who have a demonstrated interest in the field of aerospace medicine by providing financial support to attend an aerospace medicine related conference.

The recipient will be awarded a $1000 US check to be applied towards the cost of attending an aerospace medicine-related conference of choice. The scholarship is open to students and residents of all nationalities.

Eligibility

  1. Must be a student enrolled full time in an accredited college, graduate school, nursing school, medical school or a resident in an accredited residency program at the time of application.
  2. Open to students of all nationalities.
  3. If selected, the recipient must become a member of both AMSRO and AsMA.
Requirements

  1. Complete the application form
  2. Personal statement (maximum of 1000 words) outlining the applicant's career goals, academic background, past experiences related to aviation, extracurricular activities, flying experience (if any), research experience (if any), choice of conference and how attending the conference will help in his/her career development (Please state if involved in the conference proceedings - for example presenting a paper, committee member, etc.)
  3. Details of the Conference which the applicant intends to attend using the scholarship: conference name, location, dates, and website. The selected conference should be any conference related to the aviation, space and environmental medicine for the academic year of selection.
  4. Letter of recommendation or sponsorship letter (to be forwarded by the sponsor directly to the scholarship committee by email from the sponsor's email address)
